Farmer’s exposure visit on utilization of straw was held on 19/12/2019 at Central Institute of Agriculture Engineering (CIAE), Bhopal. The total 48 farmers (20 female farmers and 28 male farmers) from Sehore district participated in the visit. Dr. Dushyant Singh (PI) and Dr. BM Nandede (CoPI) participated and facilitated the exposure visit with scientists and technical staff of Agricultural Mechanization Division, Agricultural Energy Division, Prototype Production Centre and Farm Section of the ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal. On field demonstrated could not be conducted due to unfavorable field conditions. However in the machines were demonstrated in laboratory of farm yard. The farmers who follow the Soybean-Wheat and Rice-Wheat cropping system under conservation agriculture technique were enlightened on utilization of the straw and agricultural waste. |

The exposure visit was made to see utilization of the straw or straw handling machinery and their production process. Zero till drill or seed cum fertilizer planter with herbicide applicator etc were shown to the farmers. The visit followed by a pilot pellet/briquetting plant, it consisted of straw chaffing unit, straw conveyer and briquetting machine. The briquettes produced in the plant and its economics were briefed. Pilot scale briquetting plant, motorized briquetting machine and tractor PTO operated mobile briquetting machine were exposed to the farmers. Biochar making machine were also demonstrated. |

The group of farmers was exposed to the straw collection and bailing machine. It is operated by tractor PTO. This machine was attached with the urea application unit. To utilize the straw judiciously and making the rice straw suitable for animal feed use of this machine will facilities the farmers on utilization of rice straw. A straw loader was also demonstrated to the farmers for collection of the straw after threshing of the paddy, soybean and wheat. The straw can directly be loaded in the tractor trolley with the help of straw loader. The straw chaffer cum loader developed by ICAR-CIAE Bhopal was shown to the group of farmers. This machine can be utilized after harvesting of wheat or rice for cutting and collection of straw from harvested field. This machine cuts and chaff the straw and load in the tractor trolley and can be unloaded in the yard or briquetting plants. |
